AI as a tool?
Hello,
I haven't posted in forever because I've been busy or just surviving this heat. Back in July, I stumbled upon a post from someone, I don't remember their name, who said that they were using AI to write their posts. Don't worry, I am not using AI on my posts. Every word I write is mine... or is it?
Well, I don't use AI to write my posts because these are just my thoughts and I love trying to express my thoughts as accurately as possible, even though I mostly struggle to do so. I am not here to try to convince anyone that I am a great writer or to sell anyone anything. After all, this blog is not even listed anywhere. I have no idea who even likes my stuff and why.
However, I always reread my posts like a hundred times, rephrase things, and look up synonyms for words, so that I don't repeat myself too often. Does this make the words I write "less" mine? I don't think so. After all, At the end of the day, I am the one who chose what words better conveyed my thoughts. I am the one choosing what a sentence should sound like and what it should evoke in a reader. Even if not all the words I write belong to me, I do place them in an order that I like and that I think fits me and my intentions.
In the post that I was reading, this person said that they were never good at writing, so they're using AI to generate the text. They provide the ideas, the way the text should sound, the AI generates the text, and then they proofread it and adjust it until it fits. They were also very honest about it and not trying to hide anything.
This made me wonder what the difference even is between me doing the work manually while this other blogger just wants to share their thoughts and ideas with the world without worrying too much about not being able to correctly convey them. Apart from the ethical reasons against AI, I do wonder how, in this scenario, this is different than a spellchecker, word suggestions or simply searching for a better word or phrase.
So yeah, I dunno how I feel about it. Writing helps me organize my thoughts and improve my language skills, so I don't plan on using AI to write anything soon, or ever. I have used it to practice some French before, but I kind of used it like I used to use google translate. I'd have it translate something for me and I would try to understand how the translation worked. I would not just use utilize google translate, or AI right now, to pretend I spoke something I didn't or that I spoke it better than I actually did. I am actually the opposite. I do not claim to speak a language until I know I can kind of live in it.
