I learn languages chaotically
I am a language nerd. I used to be in most polyglot groups on facebook and I have even talked to some really remarkable polyglots. I would start learning a new language every week because everything was tempting, from Swedish to Irish or Turkish. I've had lots of fun with Turkish, but unfortunately, I don't see myself needing that language or using it a lot and I kind of stopped learning it. A lot of the words are very similar to each other, but, man, the grammar, the word order, I could... ? ... "explode of excitement", to put it gently.
Anyway, I speak English, German and Romanian fluently, so Germanic and Romance languages are easy for me. There are some languages in these families that I find so weird and annoying that I.. I want to learn them. In the Germanic family, I used to think that Dutch sounded absolutely ridiculous, but now I can kinda speak it and now I think Danish is insane and I kind of want to learn it out of spite. But before I do all of that, I decided a year ago to focus on my biggest enemy in the romance family.... French. What on earth happened to this language to have such weird sounds? For what is-this that this language has de(s?) such weird features?
Anyway, the weirdness of French made me wanna learn it, so I decided in 2025 that I would only focus on French... and focus I did not. So I extended my learning period to 2026 and I am doing much better. I do know more and I understand more than before, but now I am wondering if I need to stop learning it so chaotically. I always just dive straight into the language, learning whatever, chatting with people, reading my way through things and hoping for the best. I can do this because I know Romanian, English and some Spanish and all I have to do is Frenchify it.
This is also how I've learned Dutch. I bought a book while I was in the Netherlands and struggled my way through it until I finished it. I think I have read a total of 5 books in Dutch and it is not even a language I claim to be able to speak lol.
I dunno what I am gonna do. Maybe I should sit down and read those damn magazines and write down sentences and words.
